A winner losers on the night
by Patrick Cusick
2006-05-25

The large crowd at Lumpinee jeered loudly when Kompayak Fairtex lost the 116 pounds Lumpinee Championship by a one point margin.

For all who witness the contest it appeared that Kompayak was in control and deserved to win. He punished Rungruenglek for two rounds, drew two and lost the final. The slow finish cost the Fairtex fighter dearly and, for certain, he will finish harder in future contests.

Nevertheless it was a brave and commendable performance by the young Kompayak who has risen rapidly over the past year to become a main event star fighter.

Nevertheless it was a brave and commendable performance by the young Kompayak who has risen rapidly over the past year to become a main event star fighter.

Kompayak appeared poised for victory when he stunned Rungruekglek with a heavy punch in the third round. And then in the fourth Kompayak matched his opponent in the qrappelling quarters.

But just when the fight seemed all but over Rungruenglek finished strongly in the final round and impressed the judges so judges so greatly that they declared him the winner.

While Kompayak may have lost the contest he won over many fans who will be keen to see him win next time he enters the Lumpinee ring.
